Issues Consultation 5: Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report

The event is not currently available for consultation.

This is the consultation page for the New Local Plan Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report.

The purpose of the Sustainability Appraisal is to consider the impacts of the New Local Plan on achieving sustainable development and the creation of sustainable communities. In order to achieve sustainable development and sustainable communities an appropriate balance should be struck between environmental protection, the use of resources, social development and economic growth.

The Sustainability Appraisal is designed to also fulfil the requirements of the Strategic Environment Assessment Regulations. The Council will be able to identify through the Sustainability Appraisal if the New Local Plan will have significant adverse impacts on the Environment, as required by these regulations.

The first stage of a Sustainability Appraisal is scoping. The purpose of scoping is to identify the policy context for the sustainability appraisal, identify the existing environmental, social and economic conditions in Castle Point, identify sustainability issues, and identify sustainability objectives against which the New Local Plan will be assessed.

Comments are welcomed on the New Local Plan Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report. The report can be viewed by clicking on the 'view and comment' button below.
